Another huge success at the Mike Richards Charity Golf Tournament in Kenora. A cheque presentation was held where the NHL star donated over 17 thousand dollars to the community foundation. Richards says giving back is a key goal of his no matter how big or small. Richards charity events have raised over 100 thousand dollars overall for the community foundation.

RNAO's Grinspun In Fort Hope Today

The head of the Registered Nurses' Association is in Fort Hope today.  Doris Grinspun wants to see firsthand how the community's nursing station is dealing with the healthcare needs of Fort Hope.  Grinspun wants to find ways her organization can help recruit and retain nurses for remote Northern communities.

Conservatives nominate McKay

All the major parties in Kenora Rainy River have their candidates in place for the October 6th provincial election. The Conservatives are the latest party to select their candidate. Kenora City Councillor Rod McKay beat out Louis Roussin for the Tory nomination.

Conservatives vote in Kenora Rainy River

All the major parties will have their candidates in place in the Kenora-Rainy River Riding after this weekend. The Conservatives will select their candidate tomorrow after a travelling ballot box makes stops in Fort Frances, Dryden and Kenora. Two Kenora City Councillors are duking it out for the position.

Kenora sues Province

The City of Kenora is talking legal action to get the provincial government  to help pay for much needed repairs to a couple of local bridges.  The price tag to fix up the Keewatin Channel and the Winnipeg River West Branch Bridges is into the millions. Kenora Mayor Dave Canfield says a lawsuit is one way of forcing the government's hand.  The bridges were downloaded onto the municipality 14 years ago, and Canfield suggests some of the problems predate the transfer.  He plans to bring the issue up as his number one priority at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario convention in London later this month.

NOMA calls for more cash for policing

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is supporting a resolution calling on the provincial government to provide more funding for police services. Vice President Dave Canfield says the cost of policing locally has skyrocketed and says they want the government to increase their grants under the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund. The NOMA Board met last week in Thunder Bay.
