City Seeks Uses For Gardens


File:Fort William Gardens TBay.jpgThe City is looking for a consultant to study the future use of the Fort William Gardens.  City Facilities Manager Michael Smith says they want the consultant to examine what possible uses the garden could have if and when an event center is built.  Smith says the deadline to apply is September 26th.

Franken and Rafferty chat

There was a brief discussion over the weekend on how to improve access across the Canada-U-S border.  Thunder Bay-Rainy River M-P John Rafferty says his talk with Minnesota U-S Senator Al Franken in International Falls set the stage for a much broader discussions in the near future.  Rafferty says Franken was well understanding of the issues, including the turn-back of American tourists with often decades old drunk driving charges.

Yogi Bear in Dryden

They say Yogi is smarter then the average bear but he may now have some competition.  A bear was seen this morning camped out near the Welcome to Dryden sign, on the east end of Town.  The Ministry of Natural Resources responded and set up a trap.  The curious bear decided to park himself by the trap and stare at it for roughly 45-mintues.  Apparently he was plotting a strategy.  The bear got up, circled the trap and then ran in and out while grabbing the food inside.  The proud bruin then walked into the bush, with food in mouth.

Warmer water in Lake Superior

A warmer winter and spring means Lake Superior's water temperature is warmer as well.  Environment Canada Climatologist David Phillips says anyone who went swimming this summer felt the temperature difference.  Lake Superior's water temperature went up 8 degrees this summer and sits at 21 degrees.
