Murder Trial Continues In Kenora

Police officers have been providing the bulk of the testimony so far at the 2nd degree murder trial of Kenneth Ivall and Angela Duchesne.  Members of the OPP and former Kenora police were at the Tim Horton's Restaurant near the crime scene, the morning that Ed Wilson was killed.   Yesterday constable Miranda Duggan testified that she noticed several spots of a blood-like substance on the bathroom floor in the restaurant, and also by the sink.  Shortly after she was called out to an accident scene at the CP rail tracks, where the body of Ed Wilson was found.  Testimony will continue today at the Kenora Court House.

Dave Douglas Jewellers Closing

Thunder Bay is losing a long time jewellery store.  Dave Douglas Jewellers is closing it's doors once the all merchandise is sold.  Douglas says he's not going to try to sell his business; he just wants to retire. The store in one form or another has been around since 1908.  Douglas bought the store in 1973 from George H. Burke Jewellers.

City to talk about crossing guards

City Council is going to consider posting a school crossing guard at Woodcrest and Longbow Crescent. Councillor Trevor Giertuga wants a guard to be established at that location as a pilot project until the end of the 2012 school year.  There have been safety complaints from parents in that area.

Graduation Ceremony on Saturday

The local army reserve is holding a graduation ceremony for the latest batch of high school co-op students. Captain George Romick says the students come from both the public and private school boards.  The graduation ceremony will take place at the Armouries on Park Avenue at 10:30 am Saturday.

Terrace Bay Pulp owes millions

Terrace Bay Pulp owes millions of dollars to businesses across the Country and in the United States.  That figure is from the CCAA monitor Ernst and Young who released a list of the Mill's outstanding debts recently.  The company filed for CCAA bankruptcy protection last week.

NWO needs its own weather rodent

It's Ground Hog Day Thursday and our meteorologist wants Northwestern Ontario to get its own prognostic rodent.  Bill Laidlaw says the region can no longer depend on Southern Ontario's Wiarton Willie.  Laidlaw says we're going to have a late start to Spring but the rest of Winter will be warmer than normal.

Chase reached high speeds

An arrest warrant is out for the owner of a pick up truck that OPP say was involved in a high speed chase on city streets over the weekend. Sgt. Dan Peters says the officer had to call off the chase when speeds reached 145 kilometres an hour.  The incident took place around 2 a.m Saturday.

New Diabetes Centre Open

Diabetes patients in the City will have better access to care now that a new facility is open.  The Diabetes Health office will act as an insulin pump training centre.  The new location has a telemedicine room to provide regional consultations.

Northern plan in place

Northern Ontario's new tourism organization has a draft plan in place. Board member Doug Reynolds says the plan focuses on marketing, investment, product development and workforce training. The board has been in place since the spring and they'll start working on a strategic plan starting in November.
