Crane Tips Over At Courthouse

The crane at the Consolidated Courthouse construction site has tipped over.  Construction worker Mike George says the crane did not make a loud noise, and came as a shock to the workers. No one was hurt. The Ministry of Labour is investigating, and says that the 90-tonne crane was moving a concrete wall panel up to the top level of the new courthouse when the crane fell.  Meanwhile, a witness at the scene, Frank Zawadzki says the workers scattered like mice when the crane came down.  He adds it looks like the crane's weight wasn't balanced and that could have lead to why it tipped over.  As a result of the incident, Brodie Street is closed from Miles Street to Victoria.

High interest in Bounty

Thousands of people are lining up today to get a first hand look at the HMS Bounty at Pier 3 of the Thunder Bay Marina. The tall ship is attracting interest from both locals and visitors. In fact, the first person in line was Steve McLean of Chicago. He says he and his family delayed their trip just to take a look at the ship which is docked here until Thursday. Tours take place until 8 pm this evening.

Storm blasts south side

City crews were busy Tuesday afternoon cleaning up damaged caused by a storm during the lunch hour. A city worker says evidence shows that tree limbs were downed by lightning. Habitat cashes in with celebrity shoes

Habitat for Humanity is back with a new fundraising event. It's called Champagne and Shoes and it's a both a designer shoe sale and an auction of celebrity shoes according to CEO Dianne Mitchell. She says that includes shoes from Governor General Michaëlle Jean, Jessica Simpson and Mike Weir. The event takes place October 6th.

Sharp shares Lord Stanley's Mug

Thunder Bay hockey fans now have their Stanley Cup "fix".   They lined up around the Fort William Gardens to get a chance to get their picture taken with the cup and Patrick Sharp of the champion Chicago Blackhawks.   Sharp brought the cup to his hometown to share with everyone.  He then took hockey's Holy Grail with him for some private time with family and friends.  A city official estimates the crowd at between 2500 to 3000.

Gas station robbery leaves attendant injured

A gas bar attendant has been injured after a morning robbery.  A man entered the service station at the corner of Wardrope Avenue and Balsam Street just after 7:30 this morning and attacked the clerk from behind.  The victim sustained a minor injury from what appeared to be a straight edged weapon.  Police have yet to locate the robbery suspect.
