Three Hurt In Collision

Three people are recovering in hospital after a three vehicle mishap on the city's south side.   The collision took place at Edward and Redwood around 5:30 pm on Friday.    It was just one of dozens of  traffic accidents since the Thursday's snowstorm.

Gas Line Leak Stopped Quickly

A gas line leak on the 300 block of Lark Street caused a bit of commotion this afternoon.   It appears that someone hit a gas line while doing some work just before 2 o'clock.  A Fire and Rescue official says there was no real danger but homes in the immediate area of the leak were evacuated as a precaution.

Car Rams House

One man is recovering from facial injuries after his car rammed into a house on the 700 block of James Street this evening.   Police say that the incident took place just before 7 of o'clock and may have been the result of a medical condition.  

Thunder Bay Has Its First Pride Parade

The first ever Pride Parade in Thunder Bay is in the books.   Over 200  people took part today on the city's south side . 

Wynne Tours Resolute FP

Kathleen Wynne's first official visit to Thunder Bay as premier is over.   After a morning trip to YES Employment Services the premier took in a tour of Resolute Forest Products where she got a look at the paper machine number five, the only paper machine in operation at the sprawling facility.  

Fire Hits Vacant House

No one is hurt following a fire in a vacant house on the 100 block of Finlayson Street just off of Simpson Street behind the old Gilbert's Furniture store.   Firefighters were called to the scene at around 8 o'clock this morning.   The cause is not known, but it is the second fire in an abandoned building in that area of the city in the last week.

Ground Search Begins For Missing Woman

Twenty city police officers are on foot patrolling the area surrounding the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Police are conducting the ground search for 42 year old Pauline Kireto who was last seen on October 15th. Efforts by her family and police to locate her have been unsuccessful. Kireto is described as 5-foot-1 with a medium build and short dark hair. She does require medication and has been without them since the time of her disapearance. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Pauline Kireto is asked to call city police or crimestoppers.

Injured Owl In Safe Hands

An injured snowy owl is in the care of the Ministry of Natural Resources after being caputured at the corner of John Street and Johnson Avenue this morning.   A couple of workers in the area managed to net the bird and hold it for the MNR.  The owl is being given to a local handler who helps to rehabilitate injured wild birds.

Still No End To Water Restrictions

City officials appear no closer to announcing an end to volunteer water restrictions than they were when the flood crisis started. Following a media tour of the sewage treatment plant spokesperson Darrell Matson said that there is no way to tell when the plant will be fixed to the point where the state of emergency can be lifted and residents can resume their normal water usage. Meantime
Matson is looking at the forecast which predicts five days of rain starting on Friday.

Jury selection complete

The jury in the Andre Wareham murder trial is now selected. The ten women and two men will be given their instructions by Justice Platana tomorrow morning followed by the opening statements from the prosecution and the defense. The 34 year old Wareham is charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of 29 year old William Atkins in January of 2009.
